Dr. David Bates


David joined ERS in 2018 as a consultant, bringing over a decade of experience in the public and voluntary sector.  He began his career as a youth and community worker at North of England Refugee Service and went on to a complete a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of Sunderland, writing his thesis on the integration of young asylum seekers and refugees in the North East of England.

David continues to lecture in Media, Culture and Heritage at Newcastle University, where he teaches cultural theory and qualitative research methods at undergraduate and postgraduate level.  He has also previously worked as a caseworker for a Member of Parliament.
