Evaluation
of Connect2’s community involvement activities, Sustrans
Leading
on from the success of the programme in winning a large scale public
vote, Sustrans is committed to involving communities in the planning
and delivery of schemes that enable them to access local places
and services by walking and/or cycling, thereby also benefiting
their health and the environment. Sustrans anticipates the outcomes
from Connect2 to include:
•
Involvement in local decision making;
•
Satisfaction
with the area in which people live;
•
An
improved sense of community;
•
Access
to local services;
•
Involvement
in the public art dimension of the schemes; and
•
Increased
levels of cycling/walking.
The
Big Lottery Fund has established community involvement criteria
which have informed the community involvement standards/requirements
as detailed in the Memorandum of Understanding. Sustrans would like
ERS to help to capture the outcomes and impacts associated with
local stakeholders and communities being involved through various
elements of the Connect2 programme.
Ultimately
the evaluation will provide learning and practical recommendations
for Sustrans, the Big Lottery Fund and key partners that will facilitate
the delivery of future transport initiatives designed to provide
positive outcomes for local communities. ERS will be working with
selected Connect2 areas in order to establish good practice as well
as some of the challenges of community involvement, to inform positive
learning.
