Community Buildings
Poole Connects commissioned ERS in February 2006 to undertake
a review of the Borough of Poole’s community centres
to provide information on activities, remit, management, effectiveness
and opportunities evident within them.
The Study Team conducted a comprehensive audit of all thirteen
council owned community centres through face to face interviews
with the management committees and stakeholders. Areas of
discussion included management structures, lease arrangements,
maintenance, current activities provided and gaps in delivery.
The report includes conclusions and recommendations to inform
sustainable activity in the future and will feed into the
work carried out by the Local Strategic Partnership and Poole
Connects in Building Active Communities. An options appraisal
gives consideration to doing nothing, the development of strong
partnerships, the creation of a support role, the transfer
of ownership, selling buildings through private sale and a
mixture of the options presented, with recommendations made
for each option.
